Whenever, I get swamped at work, and need a time out, I start looking at pictures of foreign exquisite dishes. This motivates me to continue working, so I can afford to travel and enjoy foreign cuisine. Today, I just realized there’s fried ice cream. It’s official, I’ve been living under a rock.
Ice cream is a universally loved treat. It’s a feel-good dessert that is enjoyed by male and female alike. Now, fried ice cream exists. The origin of this dessert is unknown, but it seems to have gained prominence in late February of 2018. How did I not know this? Which genius decided to create this?
To make this wondrous dessert you will need:
- 1 litre (33 ounces) ice cream, any flavour
- Crushed cereal such as corn flakes, frosted flakes, finely crushed sweet hard cookies or crackers
- Butter, this is better than using oil
- 2 eggs (beaten in a bowl large enough for dipping)
- Cinnamon and/or sugar
Use this method from All Recipes to make this dish:
- Scoop ice cream into 8 – 1/2 cup sized balls. Place on a baking sheet and freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
- In a shallow dish, combine cornflakes and cinnamon.
- In another dish, beat egg whites until foamy.
- Roll ice cream balls in egg whites, then in cornflakes, covering ice cream completely. Repeat if necessary. Freeze again until firm, 3 hours.
- In a deep fryer or large, heavy saucepan, heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Using a basket or slotted spoon, fry ice cream balls 1 or 2 at a time, for 10 to 15 seconds, until golden. Drain quickly on paper towels and serve immediately.
